Funkadelic said it way back in the 1970s, yet we are still struggling. The first two lines in the timeless funk cut are, “The kingdom of heaven is within / Free your mind and your ass will follow.” But, I’m getting ahead of myself.

Leading up to Joe Biden’s announcement of Kamala Harris as his presidential running mate, I had pretty strong ideas about who should be the VP pick. Turns out, my pick was not Joe’s pick. In that moment it seemed I had every right to be disappointed. Fortunately, my online “Daily Word” devotional had prepared me for what was to come…again.
