Over twenty years ago, I experienced a paradigm crash. Everything in my life and within my world shattered into more than a million little pieces—following the death of Justin, my youngest child at the time. Almost every decision that my husband and I made then seemed wrong because we were operating from such a low level emotionally. After months of grief counseling; years of spiritual counseling; more years of personal development, coaching and transformational work; and given time to find the faith that there was just a little bit more that I could become and offer—I slowly began to feel emotionally well enough to reevaluate my life and my values. This was not easy and it certainly took a while, but it restored me just a little more each day. For me to move forward I knew I had to determine a new ideal for my life. No matter how much pain I was in, I concluded that the process had to start right where I was—with me. >

WORDS OF WISDOM

Joanne: The first thing is: You’re not a victim. You’re a victor. I’ll say it again. You are a victor. Receive that in your spirit. You are moving toward the best version of yourself. This stumbling block—whatever it is—is a steppingstone to take you where you need to be. Things happen in life that we have no explanation for. We don’t understand it. But in retrospect, it makes sense. Everything has a purpose. And on the other side, there is victory. So, know that you’re moving toward the best version of yourself. This is not a period. It is a comma. That’s the first thing.

The second thing is this: In corporate America, which is a unique animal in and of itself—finding mentors is helpful. Find those folks in the organization who believe in your talent and have thirty minutes to an hour, perhaps once a month, or maybe once a quarter, for you to check in with. That can be a great resource. It can also be beneficial to attend seminars and other peer group organizations to give you exposure to what other people are doing. I think part of it is being exposed to other areas that are similar to yours, but not exactly. This helps you to expand your horizons. >

New Beginnings

New beginnings! We have this conversation every year at this time. Some call it resolutions. However, some of us have learned that resolutions are difficult to maintain. Our challenge during this past season has, perhaps been the greatest we have ever encountered.

We all have the opportunity and ability, no matter how bleak our current circumstances, to embrace a fresh start, a new beginning.

I was thinking about people, and the idea that as human beings we are made of amazing remnants of stardust and extraordinary fragments of life-force particles that originated in cosmic explosions billions of years ago from stars.

Imagine this ubiquitous, pulsating energy continually floating around us today and flowing through each of us—connecting us to each other, and guiding us back to the ultimate universal creative power. Many refer to this energetic force as God, The Universe, Source or Spirit. According to Scripture we are all made from millions of tiny particles of mystical dust or dirt (Adam, the first man and ancestor), and formed by God Himself/Herself/All, in His/Her own image and likeness, and animated into physical life by God’s own breath.
